New species can arise as a result of isolation. This is where two populations of a species become geographically separated. For example, Charles Darwin described speciation of finches this way.Darwin studied the wildlife on the Galápagos Islands (a group of islands on the equator, almost 1,000 km west of Ecuador). He noticed that the finches (Songbirds) on the different islands were similar to each other.However, the finches showed wide variations in their size, beaks and claws from island to island - for example, their beaks were different depending on the local food source. Darwin concluded that, because the islands are so distant from the mainland, the finches that had arrived there in the past and had changed over time.

The embryos help Darwin find that finches came from the same ancestor which they go through phases of evolutions, this depends on the island the finches are located. Darwin discover that in different islands the beak from the finches were bigger hence stronger to crack difficult shells from plans, but in a different island finches have smaller beaks to get nectar from that plants. Darwin came to the conclusion that finches adapt from their environment.

The example of peppered moths is not really different from Darwin's theory, it is the same concept. The only difference is that peppered moths live in the same habitat, where as Darwin's finches live in different habitats, which drove the evolution of their different beak shapes. The peppered moths have adapted to blend into their environment so they're not as easily caught.
