Short ribs come in two cuts: English and flanken.
English cut, the most common, has a bone section usually 3" to 5" long, 2-6 bones wide, and is 1-2" thick. They are occasionally available without the bone. Flanken cut is less common, but popular in Asian butcher shops. Flanken ribs are typically about 6" long, 1" wide, and 1-1.5" thick.

Rippenspeer (auch Schälrippchen) = spareribs; cured rib of pork
henryThe answer above me is WRONG it was Spareribs and I can prove that on her website which is the paragraph next to the pictureof her leading story hour.it states: They asked, "Where are the books about kids like us?" and the young librarian responded with her first book, about a boy named Henry who had a dog named Spareribs-later changed to Ribsy.
When she wrote it, she called it Spareribs and Henry. When it was published (and how we know it), it is called Henry Huggins.
For both spareribs and loin back ribs, you should expect 11-14 bones in a whole slab.
