Its alright. Depends on what level your talking about

Primary school - start at 9 finish at 3. No primary school is overly strict. No hitting or excessive shouting allowed. Small bit of homework most nights, some schools let them off without homework on fridays. Ages between 4 and 13

Secondary school - start at 9 finish 3.45. Its a bit more strict, but because of exams this is natural, generally get alot more homework compared to primary. Home study is expected to be done along with the homework and sometimes grinds (home tutoring) are recommended by some schools. Ages between 13 and 19.

They are know as Secondary schools. Like in other countries they have classes for different subjects and students choose the subjects they want to do. Over the 5 or 6 years spent there, there are two major exams, the Junior Cert after 3 years and the Leaving Cert after 5 years, or 6 years if some students take an extra year of schooling. Once the Leaving Cert is finished, students are finished with second level education and could then go on to third level, like a college or university, or some may try to get jobs.
