Northern Mexico is part of the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts, so it has a hot, arid climate (> 100 °F). The Mexican central plateau, where Mexico City and many other cities are located, has a temperate climate, such as that of San Francisco or Los Angeles in the United States (68 - 77 °F). Southern Mexico has a more tropical climate (86 °F), but as Mexico has a rugged topography, some parts of the south have "mountain jungles" that have a humid, but temperate climate (68 °F).

The region with the greatest income is in and around Mexico City, where 21.5% of the country's total income is generated. Other two important regions include the northern state of Nuevo Leon (7.5% of total Mexican GDP) and the western state of Jalisco which contributes to 6.2% of Mexico's GDP.
