Many religions have no holy writ whatsoever...that's one of the reasons why in the early days of Islam, Jews and Christians were referred to as "People of the Book." Given, the three Abrahamic religions *do* stem from the same basic concept, and they use the same starting points for the Torah, Bible, and Qu'ran (no, the beginnings are not the same for all three).
Buddhists have no holy book, nor do Unitarian Universalists. African and Native American faiths do not have holy books. Besides, many people in the world are illiterate, and read no books at all.
