Polish people have a twenty four hour fast at Christmas so they would not eat anything until later that evening.

Improve answer: Actually, some religious people in Poland fast before Christmas.

It's free will to fast. It ends on Christmas Eve first meal. So, on Christmas morning they can eat whatever they prepared for that holiday. Usually it's a typical holiday breakfast. Bread, sausages, chees, eggs. Some polish traditional food. Also a lot of fruits and cakes are eaten during Christmas. It depends on region and persons.

There is variations to each family. This meal usually consists of twelve meatless dishes. In our family we celebrate on Christmas eve and our twelve course meal consists of the following:

1) Pickled herring

2) Sardine Soup (not for the faint of heart)

3) Wheat and honey

4) Traditional polish bread with butter

5) Homemade egg noodles

6) Creamed cabbage

7) Sour cabbage rolls

8) Potatoes

9) Perogies (blueberry, cheese, sauerkraut, and potato)

10) Fried Fish (we usually have walleye)

11) Pickled beets

12) And our course about 10 different types of dessert. (Our grandma loves to bake)

We usually start the meal with the Lord's Prayer and Hail Mary, then we pass around the holy bread (which is imported from Poland each Christmas) and have a glass of wine, then we eat, until we are stuffed like little piggies.
