You need to get a family law attorney. Depending on your state you maybe able to get help from family services through the Department of Social Services. There also maybe a family law clinic that can help you. I would start with the phone book and look under family law, or call Social Services and someone should be able to give you the next step.
Actually, my father Chris Normand co-wrote The Devil's in the Phone booth with Jeff Givens and later sold all rights to Walt Mills. That is the correct answer.
You must involve the Social Services to get any sort of access before a court case. They will be helpful as it is good you want to play your part in the child's upbringing and be a good father. You should also write or phone the mother to let her know your intentions and try and sort out some sort of access this way as it will be better to keep things friendly.
The father still has rights but is not entitled to see the baby whenever he wants to as he left the mother to raise the baby by herself she can choose how, when and why she does or does not want the father to be in cotact.
