Parts of a standard longboard (skateboard):
- The deck. This is what you stand on.
- Trucks. Trucks are what causes the board to turn. Each truck is composed of one baseplate, one hanger, two bushings, one kingpin, one lock nut, two speed rings and two axle nuts.
- Four wheels. Two on each truck.
- Eight bearings. These help the wheels continue to spin after you push. There are two bearings in each wheel.
- Risers/Shock pads. Risers separate the truck from the deck to prevent wheelbite. Wheelbite is when the wheel hits the deck during a turn. Shock pads also separate the truck from the deck, but these special risers are soft and are meant to cushion the deck and the truck.
- Bearing spacers. One per wheel.
- Washers. There are two washers on each side of every wheel.
- Grip tape. This goes on the deck, and helps you stay on the board.
