Based on what we know about his life, his dream has always been to make a difference. Even when he was a kid, he wrote an essay (in the third grade, according to some sources) about how he wanted to become president; he saw himself as someone who could solve the world's problems. (Note for those who want to change this answer: the question was about what his dream is. You may or may not agree with his policies, but there is considerable evidence that he always dreamed of making the world better in some way.)
By many accounts, he seems to have always wanted to help the poor. There is evidence that even when he was in elementary school, he wrote an essay about wanting to be president so he could "help people." One of his first jobs after college was working for a Catholic-run charity which advocated for the poor and helped them find legal aid if they needed it. When he worked in the Illinois state legislature, Mr. Obama was also an advocate for laws that would help poor and working-class families. Among his hopes and dreams today are improving the economy so that more people can find work, and addressing income inequality so that not just the top 1% will benefit when the economy improves.
