It clears out the choking underbrush and immature trees that choke out the seedlings on the forest floor. Also there are SOME species of trees that will not reproduce without the assistance of fire which is hot enough to make them reproduce (produce seeds).

Some fires are good because it burns away dead material and allows for healthier regrowth. In fact, some fires are caused by firefighters for that sole purpose

  • clear out dead branches and leaves
  • some plants seeds only germinate after a fire
  • new growth is low to the ground and accessible to animals for food
  • minerals are returned to the soil
  • dead trees are removed
  • the burned areas are suitable for new species of animals

Controlled forest fires won't get very far and they can burn away dead material to allow for healthier regrowth and some plants rely on the effects of fire in order to survive
