Food

US Virgin Islands

(Buñuelo) buñuelo: a kind of donut they cook in the USVI; but basically another name for donuts made another way.

Ingredients:

1 pack of biscuits; store-bought or homemade (islands do homemade)

Confectioners sugar (at least 4 cups)

Milk (at least 1½ cup)

Vegetable Oil

Directions:

1.) Put Vegetable Oil in a pot and put on medium heat.

2.) While the oil is heating up, take the biscuits out and roll them into little balls.

3.) When the biscuits are rolled up, flatten them, out but don't make them too flat.

4.) Next, make a hole in the center, just like you would do a donut. Put the new-donuts aside.

5.) Next, take the Confectioner's Sugar and pour about an 1¾ cup of it in an bowl.

6.) Next, get the 1½ cup of milk and pour in the bowl with the sugar.

7.) Mix It Up! Make sure there are no lumps in the mix, and you have created your glaze.

8.) After that, go back to the biscuits and see if they haven't changed. Check the oil to see if it's hot.

9.) When the oil gets hot, gradually put the biscuits in one by one. You should check the biscuits every minute, because it doesn't take long to cook. When the biscuits turn a olden fluffy brown, you'll know you're done. They be thicker because, well, their biscuits.

10.) Take the biscuits out and put them on a paper plate.

11.) Next, spread the glaze over the donuts however you like.

12.) Eat, Enjoy!
