(Buñuelo) buñuelo: a kind of donut they cook in the USVI; but basically another name for donuts made another way.
Ingredients:
1 pack of biscuits; store-bought or homemade (islands do homemade)
Confectioners sugar (at least 4 cups)
Milk (at least 1½ cup)
Vegetable Oil
Directions:
1.) Put Vegetable Oil in a pot and put on medium heat.
2.) While the oil is heating up, take the biscuits out and roll them into little balls.
3.) When the biscuits are rolled up, flatten them, out but don't make them too flat.
4.) Next, make a hole in the center, just like you would do a donut. Put the new-donuts aside.
5.) Next, take the Confectioner's Sugar and pour about an 1¾ cup of it in an bowl.
6.) Next, get the 1½ cup of milk and pour in the bowl with the sugar.
7.) Mix It Up! Make sure there are no lumps in the mix, and you have created your glaze.
8.) After that, go back to the biscuits and see if they haven't changed. Check the oil to see if it's hot.
9.) When the oil gets hot, gradually put the biscuits in one by one. You should check the biscuits every minute, because it doesn't take long to cook. When the biscuits turn a olden fluffy brown, you'll know you're done. They be thicker because, well, their biscuits.
10.) Take the biscuits out and put them on a paper plate.
11.) Next, spread the glaze over the donuts however you like.
12.) Eat, Enjoy!
Two of Honduras's desserts is Honduras torrejas and Honduran Bunelos.
There are so many foods associated with a traditional Christmas in Mexico I will explain a few. Tamales come to mind at Christmas. These are hard to make and are made in large batches only a few times a year. Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings bread) is a sweat bread shaped in a wreath. A little baby Jesus doll is baked inside and whoever gets the doll has to provide the food for the next party which is Candlemas, February 2nd. A special salad, ensalada de Navidad, contains diced cooked beets, carrots, oranges, apples, fresh pineapple, bananas, unsalted nuts, and the seeds of the pomegranate dressed with a lemon or lime dressing is traditional. There are Christmas drinks Ponche Navideno a brandied punch, and Chocolate Calinete which is a hot chocolate flavored with cinnamon.
