Amy is "dumped" by Tom for Becky, which causes her to be bitter. Until Tom reveals his love of Becky, Amy has nothing but affection for Tom. She is most often portrayed and a girl of about 11 with long, straight, dirty blonde hair in two braids, brown eyes and a nice but simple dress. She is very giggly and perky when she is happy, but bitter when snubbed. She is one of the minor characters in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Amy is overly perky towards Tom because she loves him as much as any eleven year old girl can. When he ignores her for Becky, she becomes bitter and childish. She is not seen as a pretty or intelligent girl, only a force to be reckoned with. She is in a sour mood for most of the story. In most theatrical productions, she is a jealous, dumb blonde. Something of an antagonist. Usually her role is small, with only a line or two. In the scripts from pioneer drama services, she has ten lines, which is the most of any adaptation of the character for the stage. She is placed with the school girls.
