A customer called the computer company, complaining that the monitor never turns on so he only gets a black screen. After some questions that identified the customer used a desktop model, with separate PC, Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse, the technician asked a simple question: There is a button on the right hand corner that is the same color as the plastic frame used around the monitor. Did you push that button in? (e.g. Did you turn it on?)
A common problem with laptop monitors is the tiny wire for WiFi, located at the hinge area. The wires there can become crimped, or even damaged. Some common issues may be unexplained loss of WiFi (while WiFi shows a strong signal, but poor reception); graphics errors such as lines on the screen; sudden black screen without interruption of the computer itself. If you carefully close and reopen the PC, the monitor's problem often disappears. Since this is a structural problem, it may cost more than it is worth to fix it, especially on an older laptop.
