Trucking transportation carriers, like US Xpress, carry freight that is often general, and the paying client or shipper may or may not be a regular customer. A dedicated run is a truck driving position where the driver is driving a specific customers product full-time. In other words that fleet of drivers, managers and dispatchers are employees of the trucking company but are "dedicated" to hauling a specific client's product or goods.

Companies like US Xpress serve customers like Dollar General, Kroger groceries, Target and Wal-mart. While it is true that some dedicated accounts do allow the drivers to get to know a specific route, become familiar with people at each distribution center and have a regular home time, it doesn't guarantee anything more than that they are running for a specific client of the carrier.

Common misconceptions are that dedicated accounts all are home daily or at least home more often. This can occur more often than with over the road general freight but is not a given. The most money to be made on dedicated accounts will be 100% unload by driver, such as Dollar General. The most home time is often seen with grocery accounts like Kroger and Meijers, or even Wal-mart.
