Desert horses adapted to the heat, so they tend to be thin skinned and usually don't grow thick winter coats. Some like the Akhal-Teke have a coat that shimmers to reflect the sun and create a mirage type effect in the heat. They also tend to be small and light weight to avoid needing a lot of food or water.
