A car starter motor is a good example of an electromechanical device.
When battery current is applied, an electromagnet is charged and overcomes the resistance of a strong spring attached to a lever which forces the starter gear to engage the engine flywheel. The electrical current simultaneously causes the gear to rotate, forcing the flywheel to turn thereby turning over the engine.
Another example is the simple doorbell which works on the same principle.

A cyborg is a human who has has parts of their body replaced with electromechanical devices (such as microchips and pistons). Another way to think of it is any organism that is a combination of organic and electromechanical substances.
