I make my own, and the only cost is for the ingredients, which is free for the wooden bead, beads made from seeds, and paper mache unless you count the glue. I have received a few free beads as promotions for subscribing to craft magazines, or as discounts for large orders (a free spacer bead for every 10 pony beads). I see some companies that say they will send free samples with each order, to promote the newest products. You can also sign up on freecycle.org and ask for some. Many people have things that they give away there. You can make your own from the coloured pages of magazines, First cut strips of the colour, the length of the page, approx 2cms wide, get a cocktail stick, wind your paper onto it until the end, then put a spot of glue on the end, so that it sticks to the rest of the paper, gently pull off, when you are finished making as many as you like, let them dry and either paint clear varnish on them, or clear nail varnish. you then should have a lot of pretty coloured beads. You can also make beads out of FIMO. Don't forget to put a hole in the Fimo beads before you leave them to harden.
