Green countertops have a certain amount of recycled materials in them. One sold at The Home Depot is called Eco by Cosentino and is made from 75% recycled material including glass, porcelain, mirrors, and ground stone. The resin that is in it is also made primarily from corn which is very cool and after looking on the website for the vendor I found out that they even recycle 94% of the water used in the process of making it and restore the quarry that the stone has come from. Very cool.
Keep in mind that just like other green products, is it not going to be less expensive simply because it is made of recycled materials.
One great perk is that is can be made as a 4cm product which means if you are replacing a laminate countertop is wont have a gap between the 3cm (1 1/8") thick top and the tile because this top will have a finished thickness of 1 1/2" thick just like laminate.
