Never heard of that before, in fact I wondered why would anybody want cow at a funeral.
The most important thing to sikh's is Guru Nanak.
Because it's a place where Sikh worship and talk about Guru Nanak.A Gravesend is very important to sikh.
At a Sikh funeral, after cremation, guests are to return to the family's home. Prayers are read and hymns are sung. Neighbors and friends are expected to prepare a meal for the family of the Sikh and afterwards, everyone is expected to bathe, in order to cleanse themselves.

For a Sikh the most important thing is Hair.a saying : a Sikh will cut his head id the need comes (i.e. die ) but will never cut his hair.

If you're comfortable with the idea, attending both the funeral and the shiva is ideal. Both parts of the funeral and mourning process are very important in Judaism and your friend would most likely appreciate your support.
No Sikh Guru is seen as main or important than any other Guru. Each Guru contributed something new to Sikhism and reinforced the teachings of previous Sikh Gurus.
