The Los zeta's are not a cartel, they are turning into a Cartel but mostly they are a paramilitary attack force. They originate from the Gulf Cartel, being employed by the Cartel until the Gulf's started war by killing a Zeta member who wouldn't join them. Two, the Gulf Cartel shrunk when it started war, the ensuing battles made it easier for other cartel to take control of its territory and since then the Gulf's territory has shrunk. The Los Zeta have expanded their territory and have since become one of the most dangerous criminal forces in Mexico, wanted by American agencies like the FBI, DEA, and Homeland security in fear that the deadly drug war violence that has killed hundreds of thousands might spill into the US. Overall, the Los Zeta are a Paramilitary mercenary Drug cartel and a major enemy of the Mexican government and the US.
