first you need to remore all the screws you can find then the rest is held on by plastic fasteners you have to pry the panel away from the door and the fasteners will start poping loose try to stay as close as possible to the fasteners while poping them loose
You can access the fuse panel behind the steering column lower opening . Use the quick release fasteners to remove the cover
AnswerAfter you take out the screws for the handle all you do is pull the panel off. It's held on with fasteners that will pop back into place when you reinstall it.

Removing the inside tailgate panel from a 2001 Toyota four runner is a very easy process. The first thing that needs to be done is to remove the door handle. When this is done, you will see two christmas tree fasteners that need to be undone. This will allow you to just pop the panel out now. Once this is done, simply move the panel past the door handle and the panel behind can be easily removed one all of the fasteners are undone.

First you have to remove the door panel. There is a screw in the arm rest you have to take out then the rest are just fasteners. You can put a large screw driver behind the panel to pop out these fasteners or autozone sells an upolstry tool for pretty cheap good investment of you do this often. Once the fasteners come out of the door just pull straight up and the panel should come off , if you have power windows you will have to unplug the switch. Then there are three nuts behind where the mirror mounts remove these and the mirror should come right off.
