pelton turbines are suited to high head,low flow application but kaplan turbine are used for low head and a large amount of discharge needed.

kaplan turbines are expensive to design,manufacture and install as compared to pelton turbine but operate for decades.

A Pelton turbine, also known as a Pelton wheel, is a water impulse turbine developed by Lester Allan Pelton. A Kaplan turbine is a propeller turbine that that was created by Viktor Kaplan. A Francis turbine is a water turbine that was invented by James B. Francis.
