Priests will be priests: belong to the clergy, ministers of a Christian Church.
priests do the same things our priests do today they held spiritual ceremonies and they did the wrappings of the mummies and the burials
The early priests wore secular clothing that was reserved for liturgical use. The vestments worn by priests today developed from the Greek and Roman clothing worn by the priests of the early Church.
Priests, as they do today, would have lived in a separate dwelling called a rectory, not in the church.
yes. they are the main carriers of jesus' mission today
No. There is no Temple in Jerusalem, so the sacrifices are not performed by the Kohanim or Jewish Priests. Judaism of today is primarily concerned with prayer.
Ordained Lutheran priests were allowed to be married. They are still allowed to be today. Celibacy is not compulsory for Lutheran clergy.
Ancient Jewish priests were born into the priesthood and could never leave it. Today there are no Jewish priests.
They wore simple robes tied with a robe and with a hood. The bathrobe we have today looks a bit like what they wore. Priests and monks were poor and dressed that way.
In the Biblical Age, Ancient Israel had Priests called Kohanim (literally Hebrew for "Priests") who oversaw the sacrifices in the Great Temple and passed this position to their children. The Kohanim still exist today as the descendants of those Priests and commonly have the last name of Cohen or some variant to indicate their ancestry.
This is an interesting question. The main differences between Aztec Priests and Catholic Priests are threefold: 1. Wardrobe - Aztec Priests wore really cool hats with feathers and bones and stuff. Priests today wear robes. In both cases, however, the role of the special garments is the same - to emphasize the Priests' social status. 2. Chastity - Priests today are usually not allowed to have sex. Aztec Priests were under no such compulsion. This meant that, in Aztec society, they often increased the genetic diversity of the population by spreading their seed. In this way, they were similar to European village "studs". 3. Connection to war - Catholic Priests are imperialist stooges of the military-industrial-entertainment complex. Aztec Priests played a moderating role in foreign policy and often encouraged chieftains to restrain their bloodlust. Both types of priest were meant to speak truth to power, but the kind of truth was different based on culture. That's all I can think of. The religious ceremonies are slightly different, too, I guess. But, when you think about it, is communion really that different from beheading someone and eating their heart?
Yes. Buddhist priests, Hindu priests, Catholic priests, Protestant ministers, Muslim Imams...
Roman Catholic priests today take a vow of celibacy, but many early popes were married men.
