Now, this is what I did. It was quite unsuccessful once I got home, though. I brought a cat carrier (what you would bring a cat to the vet or other place in) with my rat inside of it and I explained to the pet store my situation. I did not know how my rat would react to a new rat, so they let me test drive a rat inside the cat carrier with my rat. They got along pretty well inside the pet carrier. My rat sniffed out the new rat and babied her, basically. ( I had to get a toddler -- in between a baby and an adult, because they mixed them all together and I needed to get a female since I had a female to begin with (no babies.) )Once I got home, I placed both rats back into their cage which is a pretty big four story cage, and the new rat started to climb the walls, and my old rat decided to take her down and try to snap her neck. In essence, I had a bad experience, but maybe the cat carrier idea would work for you.
