In Buddhism the three refuges are:

* The Buddha: He was a man who discovered the path to enlightenment and the cessation of suffering. The fact that he was human, just like us, and could acheive theis goal encourages us that we can do it too. This is good. * The Dharma: This is the law or the path that can lead us to the end of suffering and enlightenment. Having a way of achieving your goals is always a good.

* The Sangha: The community of people seeking enlightenment provides us with support and encouragement. Some are ahead of us (and help us), some are behind (we can help them) and some aren't yet aware of the Buddha and the Dharma. The sence of community is good.
