Severe jaundice, fluid accumulation in the abdomen (ascites ), and deterioration of mental function, due to the build-up of toxins in the blood (liver encephalopathy ), eventually occur, leading to death.
Cirrhosis of the liver involves the replacement of healthy liver cells with scar tissue.
High blood pressure (hypertension ) from scar tissue in the liver causes swelling of and bleeding from the blood vessels of the esophagus.
Not currently. Cirrhosis is caused by the liver turning into scar tissue, and once the scar tissue is there it won't grow back into liver tissue. I did just read about some Russian scientists who claim to be researching a drug that can turn the scar into stem cells which then grow back into liver cells, but assuming that this works it won't be available for many years unfortunately.
Scar tissue that forms in the liver is called cirrhosis. Technically cirrhosis is not a "disease"; it is a stage of liver malfunction. In fact, it is the final stage after fibrosis. Cirrhosis of the liver is most often caused by alcoholism, but can be caused by other diseases as well.
Scar tissue builds up on the liver if disease is of long duration.
Cirrhosis is a slow progressing disease of the liver where healthy liver tissue is gradually replaced with scar tissue. The liver can no longer filter toxins like drugs and alcohol.
Cirrhosis replaces healthy liver tissue with scar tissue that blocks the flow of blood through the liver and slows down liver functions. The liver plays an important role in blood clotting and keeping the immune system healthy.
Cirrhosis, a disease that kills healthy liver cells, replacing them with scar tissue, is the most common reason for liver transplantation in adults.

Possible complications of sideroblastic anemia include: congestive heart failure, diabetes mellitus, enlargement of the liver and spleen, formation of liver nodules and scar tissue,
Cirrhosis is the last stage of liver failure; the liver is primarily scar tissue by the cirrhotic stage. This is not curable, as once the liver is scar tissue, it stays scar tissue. It is true that the liver "regenerates itself", but only to a certain extent. If there are not enough healthy cells to regenerate (which there aren't by the cirrhotic stage), or the speed of regeneration does not exceed the speed of degeneration, then liver function will become worse and worse. This is why cirrhosis is not curable/reversible. (The treatment "cure" is a liver transplant, which is essentially the same as saying that "the cure for baldness is hair" - it doesn't really fix the underlying problem, but it does provide a solution).
