Theism is the belief in God, Atheism is the absense of belief in God, so they are largely opposites. The only similarities is that they are both concepts associated with the philosophy of religion.
Since the position of an Atheist is only the assertation of non-belief of any god claims. Other than that, Christians and Atheists could possibly share as many similarities as any two random people
Well in some cases Atheist can go as "Extreme" with their religion as the Christians do.

Ethnic cleansing could be believed to be something a deity calls for so, in that manner, theism (belief in deities) is more connected to ethnic cleansing than atheism. It's possible for atheists to engage in ethnic cleansing but they do it for reasons other than atheism.
