First, make sure that your computer has plenty of memory and space, meeting at least the minimum requirements for XP. I had to add memory cards to my Millenium machine to get it up to 512. It runs fine.
Clean up your hard drive--use programs>accessories> system tools>disk clean up to eliminate old temp files and such. Run defrag after that. Then install--it will essentially be an upgrade to Millenium, but makes a wonderful change from that balky system.
