This issue dates back to the beginnings of the industrial revolution, when cottage weavers were forced out of business by the factories. Child labour, dangerous working conditions and overwork for starvation wages were all common. These days we have cheap imports made by underpaid workers, goods sold from prison (forced) labour, factories in countries where pollution and environmental laws are nonexistent all undermining local producers. The issues become complicated as they impact unemployment, relations between countries, availability of goods and services, and quality of life.
