What do Israeli laws protect?

Modern Israeli law protects a vast number of very different things. Some of those laws include the protection of the revered sites of all religions, the right of all religions to their forms and sites of worship, the right to vote, freedoms of speech, full rights for women, the freedom to be homosexual, laws protecting contracts, allowing for tort actions on numerous grounds, etc., etc. Israel has numerous Basic Laws which function more or less as a Constitution of the State (even though Israel has no formal constitution). To take a look at the Basic Laws, please see the Related Link below.

Is Israel's government secular?

Yes. Israel is a modern country with a secular government. However, there are religious parties in the government because religious Israeli Jews have created parties to service their interests in the State. There are some government ministries, especially those involved in family and life issues (such as marriage, divorce, death, etc.), which are traditionally maintained by the religious in Israel. Each religion (of the 12 recognized in Israel) will have its own courts and its own system of administering such laws. The majority of laws, including all of the Basic Laws, however, apply to all Israeli Citizens regardless of their religion.Israel claims that its authority to govern is not from divine mandate, but rather from the legal basis provided by the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine and UNGA Resolution 181. Israel's Basic Laws are approved by the Israeli Parliament with no consultation or pressure from religious institutions within Israel and the passage of all Israeli Laws is a transparent process. Israel is not a theocracy.

How is power distributed in Israel?

Answer 1Israel power is shared equally and has a democracy. Israel has the power through the branches of government.Answer 2Israel has a proportionally elected parliamentary democracy. Israel has two separate governmental branches: the legislative-executive branch and an independent judiciary. The Israeli Military (IDF) is subject to the will of the civilian government and does not reserve any special powers or rights.Legislative-ExecutiveThe Knesset or Israeli Parliament is composed of members who are elected by all Israeli citizens (regardless of race, gender, or religion) and are seated in accordance with the percentage (roughly) of the votes for those parties. After an election, different parties will try to strike agreements with one another to form a coalition that has 61 or more seats (>50% of the Knesset). From this coalition, typically the head of the largest party will become the Prime Minister or the Chief Executive. Other MKs (members of the Knesset) will get posts in the different ministries of the Israeli government and coordinate affairs. The coalition will pass and implement laws designed to improve Israeli society according to what the Knesset rules. Additionally, the Knesset can also pass Basic Laws which are far more permanent than normal laws (similar to a US Constitutional Amendment), but these require a larger percentage of the Knesset to agree to the changes.JudiciaryIsrael has an independent court system which hears cases brought both by Israeli citizens and those on appeal from the military courts in the West Bank from Palestinians. The Israeli courts are designed to be politically impartial and will apply laws approved by the Knesset. The Israeli Supreme Court will occasionally invalidate a law in whole or in part if it violates a Basic Law or if it clearly causes more harm than benefit.
