"Macrobiotic" means "long life," which the diet promises, along with weight loss and other usual diet claims. However, randomized controlled trials like the "A to Z Weight Loss Study" consistently find low-carbohydrate diets to be the most effective for weight loss, while studies like the "Women's Healthy Eating and Living" consistently fail to show a reduction in mortality from eating a low-fat, high-fiber diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, so the Macrobiotic diet may be inconsistent with the clinical evidence.
