Polytheism An ancient example of Hebrew polytheism is in Psalm 82:1: "God standeth in the congregation of the mighty [the gods]; he judgeth among the gods..."

Another good example of Jewish polytheism is at Ezekiel 8:14-16: "Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD's house [the Temple] which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz [the shepherd god] ... And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD's house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east."

Monotheism

The same psalm, Psalm 82 is also an example of monotheism, as the author concludes at verse 8 after demonstrating that the old gods are no more and the one God will now rule the entire world: " Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations."

The Book of Daniel is belligerently monotheistic, as demonstrated in 3:16-18: "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. "
