Well there are actually a lot of "characteristics" passed on through a family! They are usually called genes. (You pronounce it like jeans)

like...

-being cute/handsome

-ages to start and end puberty

-puberty in general

-diseases, illness, infection

-hair color

-eye color

-skin color

-nose, eyes, mouth, ears, hair, skin quality

Pretty much anything can be passed on but those listed are the most common.
