I sense that most people see drinking/Alcoholism as a moral issue rather than attendant brain chemistry at work. I think people believe that not drinking is a matter of will, and many people see chemical dependency as a mental health issue in that people drink because of what happened to them growing up. It's important to remember that we're talking about brain chemistry......not willpower..
