There are number of major differences, but the foremost from which all others descend is the idea of a personal or impersonal God.

According to Puritans, God is involved in every aspect of life, watching each person unceasingly (like a security camera), putting tests before them, challenging them, and compelling belief.

According to Deists, God just made the world and that's it. He does not care about any individual in the world.
