Economists have identified regions of the world called core regions of economic development. The core regions are North America, Europe and Japan. China is not currently listed because it does not have the model as described below:

The core regions have these characteristics; they have economic diversification;

* The nations have a high standard of living;

* They are leaders in technology;and

* Productivity levels are high.
