For one, there is a monarchy, which has one supreme ruler with other officials below him who carry out his orders. The people have little say in how the government works in this form of government.

There is also an oligarchy, which has a few highest officials who rule, who are usually very wealthy. There are subdepartments below them, similar to the monarchy. The general public has little say in government.

There is a Dictatorship, which is what Hitler was during World War Two.

There is a totalitarian government, where there is one ruler who governs in the interest of himself or herself, without respect to the wants of the general public.

Finally there is a democracy, where a ruler, usually a president, governs in the interest of all the people. This is the one form of government where the people have the most say in how the government works. The people elect their rulers. The United States is an example of a democracy.
