The New Testament refers to the leaders as "Jewish" simply because they taught the Torah, or The Bible for Judaism. On the contrary, when it was said Jesus was "stoned" by the Jews, it was the people that didn't believe in the aspects of the Son of God, or didn't think about their beliefs that much.
Jewish leaders questioned him by saying he was a devil that casted out devils, called him a prophet, called him a man, and of course stoned and mocked him according to the New Testament. Mocking included saying things like, "If you be God, just tell us," or "If you be God, do this."
But it is important to keep in mind that nothing was truly "unfair" to Christ in a Christian standpoint, since it is believed that He is the light of this world and how we comprehend it.
The people in the Middle East that believed in God, were treated unfairly. They were sometimes killed for preaching, but were killed willingly in the name of God. They were not afraid of being killed for their faith either. It was dangerous for them in the Middle East before and after Christ came.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" Church) strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ found in the New Testament and look to him as the example that they should follow. They also believe that their church leaders were called by God to receive His will for the church, while they receive His will for themselves. Church leaders include the Prophet, Twelve Apostles, and local leaders, such as Bishops. This does not stop Church members from having other examples and heroes that they look up to, such as historical, political, entertainment or sports figures.
