I think there are a number of things that could affect the climate. One thing that is HUGE is global warming, just the humans being on the planet, and all of out toxic 'natural' gasses going into the air a day.

There are also our cars, which create a big amount of global warming, it takes a while for us to feel the affects we do now, so whatever global warming we're doing now, is ruining our kids world.

The other thing that can affect our Climate is the sun, since the atmosphere is getting hotter, the sun is heating the world up more, and places around the world are getting hotter.

  1. Latitude
  2. Altitude
  3. Distance from large bodies of water
  4. Windward or leeward side of a mountain range.
  1. -Altitude
  2. -Distance from the sea
  3. -Presence of mountains -Direction of wind
  4. -Soil
  5. -Forest
  6. -Ocean currents
  7. -Temperature
  8. -Humidity
  • wind
  • sun
  • orbit ((orbital variations))
  • humans
  • oceans

there are a number of static variables that determine climate, including:

  1. latitude,
  2. altitude,
  3. proportion of land to water, and
  4. proximity to oceans and mountains.

The major factors that affect the climate of an area are:

1. How far north or south from the equator the area is.

The further an area is from the equator, the colder it will be.

2. Altitude (how far above or below sea level)

Higher altitudes have lower temperatures (hence why it can be hot at the base of a mountain, but you look up and see snow at the peak.)

3. If it's a coastal area or inland.

Coastal areas have milder temperatures, but higher humidity.

What factors in an area help to determine the type of soil and the thickness and composition of the layers?

Climate can affect what type of soil develops in a certain area. For example, Deserts are dry, and the soil contains little organic material. In a temperate forest, the soil is mild and moist. Parent rock, time, and slopes are some of the factors that affect the soil. For example, on steep slopes, soil horizons often are poorly developed.
