It depends what sort of stuff he's into. You probably dont know him that well if your having to ask so just try some of the following.
Ask him about his job, or if hes ever had any jobs.
Ask about his family and his friends, you may know one or two of them.
Ask what he likes to watch on television, what sort of films he enjoys, what music he likes to listen to.. you will surely have something in common.
If hes a typical boy, he will probably like football! so ask him what team he supports etc.
The list goes on! if you and your boyfriend have a real connection, converstaion should be easy and just floww! hope it helped xx
