These are some 'in hand' exercises I use with my own horses from the time they are young babies. Practice moving your horse away from pressure. With the pressure of your thumb you can move your horse's shoulder and hips, called 'turn on haunches' and 'turn on forehand', and sidepasses with just your thumb on his side. As soon as your horse moves away from your thumb pressure praise him with voice and a pat on the neck or shoulder. These exercises will make your horse more responsive to your leg cues while riding and is a good beginning for youngsters.
