No. Panic will not solve anything. Just take a deep breath and trust that you are going to do well. Social workers tend to work with people who are poor and uneducated. Therefore, they will not have a large vocabulary. Do the best that you can and trust that things will work out as they should. Find a friend to help you practice your vocabulary.
The new devices and concepts brought in by ICT are so different to any that have existed before that the language which already existed could not describe them. Therefore, new vocabulary had to be introduced, which was very different to previous words, and thus hard to understand.

In laymen's terms you will sound that of a higher degree of education. To conclude my transitory answer of which directly relates to the question you have asked, you have to expand on your linguistics and vocabulary or use words that you do no use very much. I would advise to read. Choose authors you like and enjoyable stories, but not too hard as you will grow weary of the effort. You can find English authors, translated in French if you like, and the translations are usually very good.I look for the new vocabulary, up in the dictionary. Most of these new words will not become part of your active vocabulary (the words you use) but only of your passive vocabulary (words you understand without looking any more at their definition, when you come across them later)For advanced learners, you can try using a French/French dictionary. That will give you an understanding of the word, but also alternative ways of expressing yourself.
