"The historical sites" is kind of vague, but if you mean you want to see the Smithsonian, the White House, and the monuments on the Mall, then anywhere downtown would be fine. The convention center is also there, so there are lots of hotels in the downtown area.

I believe that you will not find any sightings in Turkey to see. You might find some sites to visit that are of historical and biblical interest. You may be the only turkey in Turkey if that is what you want to see. You will probably fascinate the citizens and they shall have something to pass on to their decendants when they sight you.
