It is therapeutically used for the treatment of Manic Depression disorder (otherwise called Bipolar disorder) The target effect is to stabilize the mood of the sufferer, as to not be grandiose or depressed. Typical dosing is 900mg a day in divided doses. Lab work (via a blood draw is done routinely to make sure Lithium is therapeutic range. It may make the patient lethargic at first, but that will subside. Important to know to drink plenty of water and most importantly DO NOT ALLEVIATE SALT FROM YOUR DIET.
Also, lithium has the highest specific heat of any solid element and is used in heat transfer applications. It is used to make special glasses and ceramics. Lithium is the lightest known metal to make strong, lightweight metals for aircraft.
