Nayarit is a state in western Mexico (capital: Tepic). It has shores on the Pacific Ocean, and is bordered to the east by the Sierra Madre Occidental. Its most important rivers include the Rio Grande de Santiago and San Pedro. It has several woodlands, including 34% of highland forest along the Sierra Madre, 30% of rainforests on the lowlands and 4% of mangle forests along its shores. The most important mountains include the San Juan and Cumbre de Pajaritos mountains, while the only volcanoes found in Nayarit include the Ceboruco and Sangangüey.
