Nova Scotia has many large population bases, but only two are large enough to have incorporated to cities. Halifax in the south central region and Sydney in the North east on Cape Breton Island. Truro is the next largest center in the "Hub" of Nova Scotia centered both North-South and East-West in the Province.
There are three main cities in Nova Scotia, the most important being Halifax, which is it's capital. Halifax has a very interpretive and interesting history as being one of the first British colonies in North America. It is a port town where shipping by boats is commonly used to export from Canada to many places in Europe and Africa, also Canada receives imports in Halifax. It's importance was a great deal during the Confederation of Canada since it was the only port the Canada's had a chance of obtaining that was right on the ocean, which meant the harbour could not freeze over in winter, all other ports on the St. Lawrence freeze and this caused a great problem for the people during the 1860's. So in 1867 Nova Scotia joined Confederation with Quebec Ontario and New Brunswick to create Canada, mainly because of their want of the port of Halifax. Amherst and Sydney are also major cities due to their size.
Halifax, the capital and the major city in Nova Scotia has a population of 348,000. It is a major sea port as well as academic center. Other cities include Sydney and Sherbrooke.
