2. they both took weeks or even months to travel on and most who tried it had little supplies
The California Gold Rush, Mormon Pioneers, and Oregon Trail were three major movements in the Westward Expansion. They all involved large groups of people traveling to the west in search of a better life.
The answer is becahse oregon and mormon including california were spots to find gold
One is a great state and the other sucks.
The Mormon Trail was the route, but it did travel on the Oregon trial too. :)

The Mormon and Oregon trails split at what is called the Hastings Cutoff which began at Fort Bridger in southwestern Wyoming.

The Oregon, Chisholm, and Mormon Trails were all popular overland travel routes across the western United States in the mid 1800's.
Brigham Young lead the first group of Mormon pioneers along the Mormon Trail to Utah in 1846-47. Subsequent groups came over the next 25 years lead by various experienced trail guides. The Mormon Trail followed a similar route to the Oregon Trail until Wyoming, when it went south to Utah rather than north to Oregon.
