England is a leader in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, and also in technical industries such as aerospace, the arms industry, and manufacturing software industry.
Once the world leader in just about everything, today their major 'industries' are iron and steel production, banking and finance, chemical, military hardware (though this is waning rapidly), tourism and others.

The financial industry, printing & publishing, pharmaceuticals, and the furniture industry are the major industries in the UK.

There was once an auto industry in the UK, but the government would not pay a few million pounds to bail them out, and said it was too much money. But then gave over 2 billion pounds to the banks.

The United Kingdom is the country where the Industrial revolutions started. The country had all the resources for this to happen (now much depleted) and it has evolved into a post industrial society with fewer more service orientated industries.
