You could be deported, or you could die or be injured in the attempt.
The risks for crossing the border is a fine of $5,000.00 for the first time, it can be doubled the second time around. Also may serve up to 1 year in jail, and if they try to get their papers later it will be harder and it will take longer. And getting married to a U.S citizen won't really speed things up. The person might have to wait up to 10 years before becoming legal in the United States.

∙ 12y agoYou mean illegally? If you make use of a smuggler or coyote, there is always the risk that he will kidnap you to ask for ransom to your relatives in the US; he could also abandon you in the middle of the desert leaving you to your fate.
If you cross by your own, you could get caught by the Border Patrol, and many of the officers won't hesitate on shooting you or at the very least, beat you up. Also you could get lost in the desert or be attacked by the local fauna, such as scorpions and rattlesnakes.
