Deuteronomy 6 reiterates to the Israelites the importance of obeying God's commands (verse 1-3).

  • It states that God is One (v.4), that we must love God (v.5), and remember (v.6) and teach these words to our children (v.7) and speak these words at all times (v.7).
We must bind these words upon ourselves and write them on our doorposts (v.8-9).
  • It states that when we enter the land (Canaan), we must not be tempted by the newfound luxury (v.10-11) to go astray.
  • We should not test God (through making demands or complaints) (v.16).
  • When our children ask us about God's commands (v.20), we should explain that we keep them in gratitude for the Exodus (v.21-23).

ANOTHER ANSWER:

The major overlooked observation of Deuteronomy... as well as the entirety of the rest of The Bible... is that in this Satan-deceived world [see Rev.12:9], Deuteronomy and all the rest of the Bible is for ALL OF MANKIND, not just the Jews.

As Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 says: "FEAR GOD and KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS: for this is the WHOLE DUTY OF MAN [the duty of ALL MEN... not the duty of Jews]: For God shall bring every work into Judgment..."

So, Deuteronomy is for every man, woman and child on the face of the earth. And like Ecclesiastes 12, Deuteronomy also demands [of ALL OF MANKIND... sooner or later... now or in the Judgment]

"Now THESE ARE THE COMMANDMENTS, the statutes, and the Judgments, which the LORD your God [man's Creator, Jesus Christ - see John 1:3] COMMANDED TO TEACH YOU... Hear, O Israel [and hear, all of you people in the world]: the LORD our God [man's Creator, Jesus Christ] is One LORD: and thou shalt LOVE the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might... And THOU SHALT TEACH THEM DILIGENTLY UNTO THY CHILDREN, and SHALT TALK OF THEM when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." (Deut.6:1-7)

That's my observation of Deuteronomy... this deceived world HATES GOD'S COMMANDMENTS... His Ten Laws that explain to His creation HOW TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Satan has turned God's Laws into a burdensome thing in the hardened heart of men, that selfish, [envious, greedy, lusty, jealous] human nature only wants to rebel against.

"Because the carnal [natural] mind [of man without God's Holy Spirit dwelling within it] is ENMITY [HOSTILE] against God: for it is NOT SUBJECT TO THE LAW OF GOD, neither indeed can be." (Rom.8:7)

The three major "false world religions" of the world [Christianity, Judaism, and Islam] THAT CLAIM THE BIBLE AS THEIR SOURCE WORSHIP THE WRONG GOD! The reality of it is that they all HATE WHAT Jesus Christ [mankind's Creator - John 1:3 & 10] SAYS.

"Jesus said to the people who BELIEVED IN HIM... '...some of you ARE TRYING TO KILL ME because My message DOES NOT FIND A PLACE IN YOUR (Satan-deceived] HEARTS. I'm telling you what I saw when I was with My Father. But you are following the advice of YOUR FATHER...'" (John 8:31-38 NLT New Living Translation)

"...'I told you the Truth I HEARD FROM GOD [the Father], but YOU ARE TRYING TO KILL ME... you are OBEYING YOUR REAL FATHER when you act that way... why can't you understand what I'm saying? It is because YOU ARE UNABLE TO DO SO! For YOU ARE THE CHILDREN OF YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL, and you love to do the evil things he does... so when I tell you the Truth, you just NATURALLY DON'T BELIEVE ME! ...'" (verses 40-45).

God's straight forward Word's, Truth and Commands in Deuteronomy [and elsewhere throughout the Bible] ARE NOT BELIEVED BY SATAN-DECEIVED MANKIND! The world is UNABLE to see, know and understand that EVERY WORD IN THE BIBLE [which the world rejects] IS GOING TO BE THE MEASURING STICK BY WHICH GOD SHALL JUDGE THE WORLD!

God is going to "open the books of the Bible" on Judgment Day [the Last Great Day of God's master plan]... and everyone who has ever lived and died... and subsequently resurrected... will have their life's works Judged against God's Laws recorded in those books.

"...'all who reject Me and My Message WILL BE JUDGED AT THE DAY OF JUDGMENT by THE TRUTH I HAVE SPOKEN [which is recorded in the Bible]. I don't speak on MY OWN AUTHORITY. The FATHER WHO SENT ME gave Me HIS OWN INSTRUCTIONS AS TO WHAT I SHOULD SAY. And I know His instructions LEAD TO ETERNAL LIFE; so I SAY WHATEVER THE FATHER TELLS ME TO SAY!'" (John 12:48-50 NLT)

"I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God's throne. And THE BOOKS WERE OPENED... And the dead WERE JUDGED ACCORDING TO THE THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOKS, according to WHAT THEY HAD DONE." (Rev.20:12 NLT)

My observation of Deuteronomy... and the rest of the Bible... is that this world is wallowing ignorantly and deeply in the lies of the god that it worships: filled with hatred, envy, jealousy, greed and lust. The LOVE of which God speaks in His Word goes unheeded... and rejected in the world in favor of the manifestation of the evil deeds of the god that the two people God made chose to obey in the beginning.

"I COMMAND YOU TO LOVE EACH OTHER IN THE SAME WAY THAT I LOVE YOU. And here is how to measure it - THE GREATEST LOVE IS SHOWN WHEN PEOPLE LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR FRIENDS. You are My friends IF YOU OBEY ME." (John 15:12-14 NLT)

"You didn't choose Me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and PRODUCE FRUIT THAT WILL LAST, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, USING MY NAME. I COMMAND YOU TO LOVE EACH OTHER." (verses 16-17)

"When THE WORLD HATES YOU, remember IT HATED ME BEFORE IT HATED YOU." (verse 18)

Jesus commands His servants in Deuteronomy to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. That is the gist of the Ten Commandments that ALL MEN are supposed to be teaching their children. Not to teach their children to hate people... or raise them up to kill people.

Deuteronomy is Moses' final instructions from God [the WORD, Jesus Christ] to the nations of the world to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. That's my observation of Deuteronomy... and all of the Bible, the books of which shall be opened at the Last Day to Judge us all.

The world doesn't KNOW or BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is KING! They don't know that He's coming back to establish HIS KINGDOM [His GOVERNMENT RULE]... Peace and Justice on the earth [see Isa.9:7].

"The LORD became KING..." (Deut.33:5 NLT).

"And the LORD WILL BE KING OVER ALL THE EARTH..." (Zech.14:9 NLT]

Moses and the prophets are warning the world and the people, nations and governments in it, that Jesus is KING... and that His Judgment is coming on us all.

"...'when the Son of Man comes in His Glory, and all the angels with Him, then He WILL SIT UPON HIS GLORIOUS THRONE. ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE GATHERED IN HIS PRESENCE... Then the KING will say to those on the right, 'Come, you WHO ARE BLESSED BY MY FATHER, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." (Matt.25:31-34 NLT)

I observe that most folks have never noticed the Good News of the Kingdom of God and its KING in Deuteronomy or anywhere else in the Old Testament. Even though Paul taught the people from those very books about Christ's coming Kingdom:

"...there came many to Him... to whom He expounded and testified the KINGDOM OF GOD, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of THE LAW OF MOSES, and out of THE PROPHETS, from morning till evening. And some believed the things which were spoken, AND SOME BELIEVED NOT." (Acts 28:23-24)

I observe that Deuteronomy is a warning to all nations... and especially America who has inherited the national blessings God promised Abraham's descendants. Blessings which we have come to feel entitled and no longer blessed... or needful of God:

"...Israel soon became FAT and UNRULY; the people grew heavy, plump, and stuffed! Then they abandoned the God who had made them; they made light of the Rock of their Salvation. They stirred up His jealousy by WORSHIPPING FOREIGN GODS; they provoked His fury with detestable acts..." (Deut.32:15-16 NLT).

I observe that this is one of the scriptures that will be 'opened for our perusal' by the LORD to show to each of us in our generation as we each give account of ourselves to Him on Judgment Day.

"See, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to REPAY ALL ACCORDING TO THEIR DEEDS." (Rev.22:12 NLT)

Deuteronomy 6 reiterates to the Israelites the importance of obeying God's commands (verse 1-3).

  • It states that God is One (v.4),

that we must love God (v.5),

and remember (v.6) and teach these words to our children (v.7) and speak these words at all times (v.7).

We must bind these words upon ourselves and write them on our doorposts (v.8-9).

  • It states that when we enter the land (Canaan), we must not be tempted by the newfound luxury (v.10-11) to go astray, and we must not forget God (v.12) or go after the local idolatry (v.14), because if we do, God will destroy our presence in the land (v.15).
  • We should not test God (through making demands or complaints) (v.16). Rather, we must keep His commands (v.17) and do what is right in His eyes (v.18), in order for Him to grant us the land and push out our enemies (v.18-19).
  • (In the future,) when our children ask us about the nature of God's commands (v.20), we should explain that we keep them in gratitude for the Exodus and the miracles that God did for us (v.21-23).
